How I Ended up Here in Torrington CT

This is a map of New England. When I first stated my family search, I wondered why my ancestors moved ot a land so far away from what they knew. They hoped for a better life.

My family were not ones to go west, they stayed here where I am still today. However, if you look at the bottom of the map, you see two Philadelphia bound ships... William Garner and Rose Dorr. I made this drawing years before I found that my Philadelphia ancestors really came into Virginia.

Now I have to go back and fix my map.

My Virginia ancestors are still in limbo. Turns out they were slaves and owners of slaves, mixed race. I have tracked my Nigerian side to the 1700s. I am trying to find my white side with DNA. The blanck side is just as diffi ult. My family were not story tellers like the famous Kunta Kinta in Roots. I saw an episode of "Who do you think you are?" and there was a modern day man who found a DNA connection to a family in Nigeria. He went there and met his family! This left a lot of gaps, but it was a pretty amazing thing to find.
