Brittons… Up-dated May1, 2009
First Generation
Probably came up the Hudson River from NYC.  Staten Island had a very early settlement of Brittons, Britains originating from the Channel Islands and area of Great Brittain around Stone Henge.
I can't make the connection back from Caleb. He had a brother that owned the property on the border of Beekman and Pawling NY. Caleb acquired it and mentions it in his will, but does not mention his brothers name. There was a Peter Britton in Beekman tax list records. Also several other 1700s Brittons in the towns nearby.  Any help will be appreciated.

  1. It is very strange to read your letters from VT. My father's name was Calvin Dewey, his wife, Julia Dewey, and my brother, Thomas Dewey.
We were originally from Michigan but now living in Rhode Island.

    1. I am so sorry I never responded. I went off on other projects. These letters were given to my aunt, who was related to your Deweys. She was my half-aunt, so the Deweys are not my ancestors. They had a house in New London, and the letters came down to my mom in Connecticut.
Is there any other information on the family that you know of?
